A Brazilian blogger noticed something very unsettling: Some advertisers are publishing phone numbers in their AdSense ads. Check it out:
]
Some even show in searches:
I wrote Google about it, but until now, no answer. Well; we, publishers, work under very strict rules, including the paranoid no-accidental-click rule, and we agree, but hey, let´s be fair. ALL WE WANT is a chance of making a dime, with people clicking on our ads. If the advertisers gives the visitor ways to reach them without clicking, we´re working for free.
I´m not a wall clock. I do have bills to pay. Including hosting expenses. If an advertiser shows its ads on my page, and give right away his phone number, the user will not click, and the advertiser is no longer a partner, but a a freeloader.
If Google does not stop that practice I´ll start a campaign to list and teach how to block those freeloaders.
Well, most likely they’ll get you dead. Point is: A while ago people discovered That some keyword led to VERY healthy Ad Sense clicks, and by healthy I mean around $160, on publishers like Overture. Mesothelioma was one of those words.
Today the party is over. Google does not pay that much. Why? Abuse. People started to create websites around mesothelioma and other high-paying words, trying to milk them to the last cent. Well, they succeeded. Now those words still pay big cash, but only when found via web searches, NOT from plain ads.
What are the websites that still make money with high-paying keywords? Simple answer: The websites with high-paying content, quality information and original material. You can write anything you want about Mesothelioma, but a phony website acting as a disguise for a money-making Ad Sense trap will make your visitors click “BACK” in a second.
Build a good and informative site, even about Mesothelioma, and they´ll stay. The longer they stay, bigger the chances of a click. It´s a good advice for websites about anything, actually. Think about your content. period. DO NOT think about keywords. Respect your visitors, they are real people (well, some are spiders and bots) and want real information. If you want a bunch of brainless monkeys clicking your banners for peanuts (or bananas) hire ClickMonkeys.

Lots of local blogs and forums tell horror stories about how they were scolded or -worse- banned from AdSense. Every story starts telling how they were innocent, how they were framed and usually end blaming George Bush.
Well, I don’t think the POTUS can be blamed if people don’t read the EULAs or simply don’t care about them.
Problem is: We only respect the laws we find reasonable, here. It’s a cultural thing, even law enforcement people will NOT enforce a nonsense law.
Example: Selling booze to minors. It’s illegal.
No one will sell a beer if a 12 years-old sits on a bar and asks for a cold one, but if he arrives with the bottles (cheaper than a deposit) and a bag, it’s clear he’s making a purchase for an adult, and there’ll be no problem. But it’s still selling alcohol to minors, and illegal.

It doesn’t matter. You may be Bill Gates, but the best money of your life will always be your first. Not the second, not the latest, not the largest. The first.
You first salary means freedom, means someone is willing to pay for your work, it means you’re part of the game now.
When someone decides to become a ProBlogger, the first AdSense Dollar is the best, also. And believe me, it takes a lot of time to get there. Clicks in Brazil are underpaid, some are as low as US$0,01. The first Dollar takes a long time to be reached. Meanwhile your friends will think you’re crazy, counting cents and clicks dropping like coins in a panhandler… pan.
I still remember my first salary, and still remember my first AdSense Dollar. Both share the same exact sensation.
